Riverclub Picnic area on Cypress Walk – Now available again after 15 years

We just uncovered a beautiful picnic spot, right on the river bank!

Over the last 5 years the BRCF (Bryanston River club Community Forum) has been maintaining about 3 kilometers of river frontage along the Braamfontein Spruit in the area between Bryanston drive and Ballyclare drive. This involves frequent cutting when the grass becomes so high that it comes a danger to motorists who cannot see at intersections along the river. It also makes the river usable by residents walking their dogs as well as many mountain bikers.

In February 2017 we undertook to clean up a large area behind Cypress Walk and the complex which runs all the way up to Ballyclare drive (Complex name is River Club Park). This area contains a picnic site which was donated and installed by the Rotary Club of South Africa in the late 80s. Residents believe the last time this area was cut and clean was in the early 2000s.

Picnic Area Cut open!

What was done? Cutting of grass and overgrown vegitation. Removal of dead vegitation and trees from the ground. Clean-up of huge amounts of litter created by displaced persons living in that part of the spruit.
